Be Accountable in the Secret Place

Be Accountable in the Secret Place

Be accountable to yourself — to be righteous in the secret of your own presence. "Ye are the light of the world." But that light is not for performance. The Lord has not called us to a form of righteousness that exists only in the sight of those who will applaud us.

This is the kind of righteousness that is forged in solitude. This is the “work out your own salvation” kind of righteousness. The “acknowledge your own ways” kind. It requires you to look into your own heart — to examine your sin, your desires, your motives — and to seek the Lord for true deliverance.

We are called to be saints, yet we are still feeble. We are called to be examples, even while we wrestle. This is the call.

The Lord said our righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees — whose piety was polished, but rooted in pride. They sought the glory of men rather than glorifying God.

The Lord isn’t looking for a show.

What He desires is true righteousness — the kind that doesn’t need a platform, applause, or a camera. In our culture, it’s common to record every good deed: giving to the homeless, offering help, or preaching deep sermons just to prove our intellect. But while this entertains men, the Lord is not impressed.

We would do better to serve quietly — off camera — protecting the dignity of our neighbor and honoring the presence of God.

Let us no longer be impressed by performative piety. Let us instead embrace sincerity — righteousness that lives before the Lord alone.

May His Word dwell in us richly — not just in theory, but in our spirit and in our daily life. When we do this, we will please the Lord… and store up treasures in Heaven.
